Yellow-throated scrubwren

Of the many small birds calling in this forest, this is one of the most common and is often seen along the tracks. It is sometimes confused with the also common white-browed scrubwren, which has lighter markings around the yellow eye and throat and a white line under the eye. The call of the yellow-throated scrubwren varies from a high pitched melodious whistle to harsh, scalding contact and alarm calls. They are also accomplished mimics of other birds. Their easily identified hanging domed nests, when no longer in use, are often taken over by large-billed scrubwrens.
