Educational and fun - a day out with a difference
The Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is a unique remnant of subtropical rainforest, located approximately one hour's drive north of Brisbane at Maleny. The area was originally donated by the Thynne sisters, who were part of an early land-holder family, to the local Maleny community.
Facilities
The Reserve is an ecological and recreational retreat where conservation, rainforest education and interpretation are the guiding principles. The principal attraction is of course our forest, with over 2 kilometres of tranquil walking tracks, boardwalks and viewing platforms within the 52 hectare Reserve. In addition to this you will find a wide range of facilities for your enjoyment including:
- Education Centre with rainforest interpretive displays
- Picnic tables and barbeques (wood supplied)
- Children's playground and open recreation space suitable for ball games
- Toilets, including disabled toilets
- Kiosk with cafe and souvenirs plus public shelter area
- Breathtaking views of the Glasshouse Mountains
An auditorium is also available for meetings and presentations by community-based, environmental and school groups, and the picnic area and kiosk is available for public functions such as weddings - telephone (07) 5494 2287 for details.
