What is Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve?
It is a Sanctuary of subtropical rainforest and the most significant remnant of the vine forest which once covered the Blackall Range. At the edge of this vine forest is a Public recreation reserve, also managed by Caloundra City Council, bringing the total area to 52 hectares.
What are the opening hours?
The vine forest is open to individuals or families during daylight hours through a side gate. The Education Centre which assists all visitors is open between 9am and 5pm (September to May) and 9am to 4pm (June to August).
What are the costs?
Students and staff are asked to make a donation to finance our Conservation projects. The minimum donation requested for a Student is $1.50. Teachers, other staff and parents are simply asked to make a similar donation.
What is the booking procedure?
Please phone the Booking Officer (Bob Taylor) on 07 5494 4255 (home) or Email: myrob@malenynet.com . Bob will facilitate the whole booking process, coordinate the Tour Guides and be your Contact person. It is vital that you book well in advance to avoid a clash with another school.
What questions will the Booking Officer ask?
The Booking Officer will need to know the year level or ages of the group, the number of students and adults and your expected time of arrival and departure. A Booking Form will also be sent to your school. The form allows you to identify your study focus and how our Sanctuary complements your study. Also, it allows you to indicate any requirements for information prior to your visit.
